Who could be the next Han Solo?

Who could be the next Han Solo?
Han Solo

There is no replacing Harrison Ford as the face that pops up when people mention the name “Han Solo.” That is unless Disney makes the absolute perfect choice in casting the young Han Solo for the standalone Han Solo film scheduled for release in May 25, 2018. So who could it possibly be?

Disney’s casting director Jeanne McCarthy and directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller for the upcoming Han Solo film have already started seeing actors who can possibly play the younger version of the iconic Star Wars smuggler. While there were 2,500 people who came to audition, a few names stand out.

1) Ansel Elgort

Maybe this 21-year old “The Fault in Our Stars” actor may not be the best choice for this movie, given his filmography has mostly contained dramatic films and a Han Solo origins film is not likely to be drama-heavy. But if there’s anything his resume has proven, it’s that he can pull off any role. Whether those at Disney thinks his pretty boy looks can pull off standing up against the Jabba the Hut though remains to be seen.

2) Aaron-Taylor Johnson

Johnson’s latest gig as Quicksilver in “Avengers: Age of Ultron” plus his title role in “Kick-Ass” and “Kick-Ass 2” prove that he can hold his own in action film. He has definitely shown range, transforming from superheroes to the iconic John Lennon in “Nowhere Boy.” But is his name (and resume) stellar enough to carry a film?

3) Rami Malek

Malek, definitely, should be included in the list. Because, why not? The 34-year old may be a tad too old for the role at hand but he sure wowed viewers this year with his awesome performance in the USA Network television series “Mr. Robot.” He has made a name for himself, perhaps enough to be a starrer in a huge film but not too huge (yet) as to compare previous performances with what the Han Solo film has to offer.

4) Colton Haynes

Ah, pretty boy Haynes…much like Ford when he took the role as Han Solo in the original “Star Wars” film in 1977. His name may only be so strong amongst his niche projects (MTV’s “Teen Wolf” and The CW’s “Arrow”), his role as Roy Harper in The CW series sure mirrors a lot of what Han Solo is all about — mad action skills and perfect one-line banters.

5) Chandler Riggs

Out of everyone in this list, perhaps Riggs is the one we’re least convinced about. For one, he’s too young at 16. Also, his most-known role as Carl Grime’s in AMC’s “The Walking Dead” may be a tad too dark for Han Solo. But it still felt right including him in the list, given Han Solo is not just about the fun but also the edgy gun-slinging, which Riggs can surely handle. Also, it feels refreshing to imagine the kid in a change of pace.

So that’s our personal round-up of who we think can play Han Solo. Who are yours? We’d love to hear from you so hit us up on the comments section.
