According to Deadline, the network had ordered the concept from the Nicholas Sparks Productions (NSP). “The Notebook” writer heads the productions alongside his publishing agent Theresa Park. The series is considered as a milestone for his TV debut as executive producer and NSP’s first TV project.
Nine of Sparks’ literary works have been successfully adapted into film including “The Notebook”, “A Walk to Remember”, “Dear John”, “The Last Song”, and “The Lucky One.” “The Best of Me” and “The Longest Ride” are the two upcoming Nicholas Sparks movies, which will premiere in 2014 and 2015.
Before “Deliverance Creek,” Sparks previously had an “almost” gig for television. The Hollywood Reporter (THR) reported that ABC was about to order “The Watchers,” a supernatural drama, but the project did not push through.
The upcoming premiere of “Deliverance Creek” will serve as a backdoor pilot of the series. If the first two episodes would be successful, the series will take off as an official television series for Lifetime. It is written by Melissa Carter (“Jane by Design”, “Little Black Book”).
“Deliverance Creek” is a period drama set at the end of the Civil War. TV Line reported that “Six Feet Under” star Lauren Ambrose will have the lead starring role as Belle Gatlin Barlowe. Barlowe is a widow with three children, who will go extreme lengths in order to save the lands owned by her family. Her life will continue to turn around as she becomes an outlaw, robbing a corrupt bank in the process. She will have a difficult decision on whether she will stay at the good side or continue to survive her family.
Deadline also reported on the several cast members who will join Ambrose on board of the upcoming Lifetime series. Wes Ramsey (“CSI”) will have Ambrose’s lead opposite as Deputy Nate Cooper of Deliverance, Missouri. Wesley’s character is one of the few law-abiding officers during the aftermath of Civil War. “Mad Men” cast member Yanni King will join the show as Kessiah “Kessie” Washington, an escaped slave who returned to help her family with forged papers.
Other cast members includes Christopher Backus (“Elevator”) as Barlowe’s charismatic brother, Riley Smith (“90210”) as Toby, Barlowe’s former lover “who he jilted and left her to marry a man she didn’t love”, Katherine Willis (“Friday Night Lights”) and Christopher Baker (“Sanctum”).
The show’s guest stars are Skeet Ulrich (“Scream”), Barry Tubb (“Revolution”) and Joel Johnstone (“The Newsroom”).
