An intense feud came to fore between two tennis players, Nick Kyrgios and Stan Wawrinka, when the former made an obscene remark about his contestant’s rumored girlfriend Donna Vekić. The Australian tennis player Kyrgios was allegedly fined for bringing a reference to the female tennis player Vekić during a heated match at the Roger Cup in Montreal saying that she had slept with Thanasi Kokkinakis. Read below to find out the consequences of a sordid comment.
Wawrinka was gradually growing invincible for Kyrgios during the second-round match when the latter made the verbal abuse. Kyrgios, as reported by The Guardian, has been fined $US 10,000 for his remark (Kokkinakis banged your girlfriend, sorry to tell you that mate), and there was an ample proof for the court to prove it as his sledging remark teased during the match was auto-recorded by a courtside microphone.
However, when ATP made the announcement on Thursday that the 20-year old Aussie would be fined over the alleged incident, he made a public apology on Facebook in which he mentioned that it was his mistake that happened “in the heat of the moment.”
“I would like to take this opportunity to apologise for the comments I made during the match last night vs Stan Wawrinka. My comments were made in the heat of the moment. In addition to the private apology I’ve made, I would like to make a public apology as well. I take full responsibility for my actions and regret what happened,” Kyrgious said.
Wawrinka had been reportedly dating the 19-year old Croatian player Vekić after his legal break up with Ilham Vuilloud in April 2015. However, they have not echoed even a single word regarding their alleged relationship. Oppositely, the fans and entire tennis world are wondering whether or not Vekić had a romantic link with the 19-year old Australian tennis player Kokkinakis.
A reference cited by Larry Brown Sports revealed that Vekić and Kokkinakis certainly had a flirty relationship, which was confirmed by their two-year old tweets.
