Nicki Minaj’s statue got some unwarranted attention from the people who visit Madame Tussauds museum. Apparently the strange pose invited much critique from black people and many spectators tried to touch the display inappropriately. The museum is planning to take down the exhibit now, because improving security around the bust didn’t improve the situation.
Nicki Minaj has always put on an “in your face” attitude while shooting videos and this seems to be inviting the wrong kind of attention for her. Apparently, her statuette which copies a pose from her mega hit video for the song, “Anaconda” gets the visitors to Madame Tussauds so excited that they want to touch it. After many tries to improve the situation by adding more staff around the display failed, the museum staff has decided to take down the exhibit. The museum has not announced that the wax statue will be replaced with a more modest pose, but the fans will obviously look forward to it.
The statue has only been on display for a month. It was unveiled on August 4th this year. Many people were concerned that the pose which involved showing Miss Minaj on all fours portrayed women, and more specifically, black women, in a bad light. Controversial female emcee, Azaelia Banks, was one of the many people who decried the decision to put up the statue in the said pose. The museum finally bowed down and decided to remove the statue when the visitors started touching the statue inappropriately.
Nicki Minaj was not available for comment on the strange turn of events. It is unclear if the lady will pose for another statue. But if she does, let us all hope that the result is lot less sexier than the last pose.
