Nicole Kidman goes makeup-free for Pirelli Calendar. This time, Pirelli Calendar has pushed its boundaries and proved to be a trendsetter.
It has taken a step to portray a woman in her real self.
Pirelli Calendar 2016 Edition
In the 2016 edition of Pirelli Calendar, Annie Leibovitz captured the beauty of Amy Schumer, Natalia Vodianova, tennis player Serena Williams, film director Ava DuVernay, singer Patty Smith and artist, musician and performer Yoko Ono singer Patti Smith.
Initially, the calendar featured world-famous models with near nude bold pictures. But now Pirelli has ventured into more unconventional female subjects. This year’s calendar will have 13 makeup-free Hollywood actresses.
Nicole Kidman in 2017 Pirelli Edition Entitled Emotional
According to USA Today, while inaugurating the 2017 edition in Paris the German Photographer Lindberg said, “In a time when woman are represented in the media (as) perfection and truth, I thought it was important to remind people that there is a different beauty.”
This year’s calendar entitled Emotional features several Oscar-winning actresses. Their beauty were showcased in black and white closeup but with no makeup. This is also contrary to the nude images the calendar is known for.
The actresses who convincingly went ahead with the theme are Charlotte Rampling, Uma Thurman, Helen Mirren and Nicole Kidman. Other stars are Lea Seydoux, Alicia Vikander, Kate Winslet, Julianne Moore, Robin Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Rooney Mara, Zhang Ziyi and Jessica Chastain.
71-year-old Helen Mirren considered this as a bold move started by Annie Leibovitz. She also feels it that it is a major cultural shift, showing what is natural and real.
Nicole Kidman also thinks the same. Kidman added that one needs to have the courage to be what you are. She also said her husband singer Keith Urban likes to see her without makeup.
Peter Lindbergh’s Views on Photography
This year, the calendar has also featured a non-actress, Anastasia Ignatova. She is a professor of political theory at the Moscow State University of International Relations. Very few show the courage to think out of the box and go against the society norm.
Lindbergh believes in portraying a woman in a different way through his photography. As an artist, he feels that it is his responsibility to change the approach of the people. He added that viewers need to see the process of symbolizing woman as ethereal beauty.
