No Nova for ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 2’

It seems like Nova won’t still be making the cut in the sequel of James Gunn’s “Guardians of the Galaxy.” The fan-favorite Nova, who is depicted in the comics as a general member of the Guardians, won’t be making an appearance in the sequel “Guardians of the Galaxy 2,” according to Gunn himself. Read on for further details.

“I don’t want Nova right now because I think Quill being the only earthling is important. That serves the entire movie going audience and not just the handful of Nova fans… I have nothing against Nova in future movies, but it doesn’t serve the movie right this moment,” said Gunn as a respond to a question from a Facebook fan.

Richard Rider was an average teenager who was chosen to wield the Nova Force granted to him by the Nova Prime, becoming Nova, a cosmic intergalactic peace-keeper and member of the Nova Corps. Nova derives his powers from a source known as the Nova Force, which is wielded by all members of the Nova Corps. Nova's small share of the Nova Force gives him abilities that include flight, super strength, speed and durability, as well as the power to absorb energies directed at him and release it as gravimetric beams and pulses, either from single parts of his body or from his entire body surface. Currently, the Nova force is wielded by a "new" younger Nova named Sam Alexander.

Although not featured in the original pic, Guardians still deeply featured the cosmic police, Nova Corps. unit in the pic. Moreover, it is depicted that the Nova Corp. may be returning in the sequel to serve as a supportive role to the Guardians who is reported to be adding a few more members on their lineup.

"Guardians of the Galaxy 2" will see the return of the five original cast members including Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana and Dave Bautista, who will be joined by other unspecified members of the film’s cast, as well as new additions for the ragtag team in a story that will unravel some of the secrets posed in "Guardians of the Galaxy.” Gunn, who directed and wrote the original pic, will be returning to helm the sequel with Marvel’s Kevin Feige producing the sequel. "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" is on course for a May 5, 2017 theatrical release.
