For its 66th year, the annual celebration of the Primetime Emmy Awards continued to commemorate the best, brilliant and brightest in television. Let us recap the noteworthy Emmy Awards moments through the years. Read on to learn more this news story.

The Emmys is considered as the television counterpart of the Academy Awards for film, Grammy Awards for music and Tony Awards for stage. The 66th Primetime Emmy Awards was held on Monday, Aug. 25, 2014, at 8:00 p.m. on NBC. It was hosted by late show host and former “Saturday Night Live” star Seth Meyers.

  • It was in 1949 that the first annual Primetime Emmy Awards was held.
  • Hollywood stars Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz attended the ceremony during the 1957 Emmy Awards.
  • Bill Cosby continued to make his mark after he won for “I Spy” in 1966.
  • Famed singer Barbra Streisand and her “My Name Is Barbra” won at the 1965 Emmy Awards.

  • In 1981, Isabel Sanford has won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.

  • At the 2013 Emmys, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler interrupted Neil Patrick Harris from their seats in the front row.

Additional information: Sheila Nevins has won the maximum number of awards individually (26). NBC leads the most wins for a network in every year with 1,012 awards. CBS is on second place with 910 awards. ABC with 704, HBO with 460, PBS with 318 and FOX with 163.
