Lionsgate has just announced the release dates of two of its movies, “Now You See Me 2” and “Dirty Grandpa”. For more details on this story, read on.
According to the Comic Book, the studio broke the news on the date of the most-awaited theatrical release for the sequel of its hit caper thriller pic, “Now You See Me 2”. The film will be seeing the return of Mark Ruffalo as Dylan Rhodes, Woody Harrelson as Merit McKinney, Jesse Eisenberg as J. Daniel “Danny” Atlas, Isla Fisher as Henley Reeves, Dave Franco as Jack Wilder, Morgan Freeman as Thaddeus Bradley and Michael Cain as Arthur Tressler.
2016 will be a very busy date for Jesse Eisenberg, who will not only reprise his role for the sequel, but will portray Superman arch-nemesis, Lex Luthor, on the upcoming “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” which will release on March 25, 2016.
The first film was a box office success grossing $29,350,389 on its opening weekend from 2,925 theaters placing 2nd behind Fast & Furious 6. The film stayed in the top 10 of the North American box office for six weeks after release and grossed a total of $351,723,989 worldwide, $117,723,989 at the North American domestic box office and $234,000,000 internationally, starting from a $75 million budget.
It received mixed reviews from critics, who praised the film’s star-studded cast and engaging storyline, but criticizing the incomplete ending. It scored 50% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 149 reviews from film critics.
“Now You See Me 2 will be directed by Jon M. Chu who would be replacing Leterrier as director and is produced by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Bobby Cohen. It will open in theaters by June 10, 2016, facing off with Sony’s Uncharted, based on the video game of the same name.
Meanwhile, the release date for the road trip comedy “Dirty Grandpa” starring Zac Efron and Robert De Niro was also announced. Efron will play the role of a soon-to-be-married man while Robert De Niro, a former Army general, will trick his grandchild to bring him to Florida for spring break.
“Dirty Grandpa” is produced by Barry Josephson, Bill Block and Michael Simkin. The pic is directed by Dan Mazer from a script penned by scribes John Phillips. It will hit the screens this Christmas against films “Mission Impossible 5” and “The Revenant and Joy.”
