Once Upon A Time Season 7 is going through some major changes as the fairy tale series goes on a soft reboot. Fans had to say goodbye to long-time favorites, but not everyone will leave. A new curse has whisked the resident of Storybrooke into a new land and with new identities. What now?

In a new interview, Lana Parilla, who plays the role of Regina and The Evil Queen, talks about what is ahead for the remaining cast. Meanwhile, show executive producer Adam Horowitz has responded about the rumors that a certain adventurer is headed to television screens.

Lana Parilla On Saying Goodbye To Old Friends and Hello To New Allies

After the tense Season 6 finale, long-time viewers of Once Upon A Time had to say goodbye to the majority of the cast. Jennifer Morrison, who played the role of the Savior Emma Swan, was the first to announce her departure. Ginnifer Goodwin, Josh Dallas, Emilie de Ravin, Jared Gilmore and Rebecca Mader were not asked to return.

From the core cast, only three characters are retained: Parilla, Robert Carlyle (Mr. Gold/Rumplestilskin) and Colin O’Donoghue (Captain Hook). They will be joined by Andrew J. West who was cast as the grown-up Henry.

While Parilla, who has worked in the series since the first season, is definitely happy to come back, she is really sad to see her old friends go.

“We’ve been a family over the years and Once Upon a Time is all of us,” she told Gold Derby. “It’s what I’m used to, it’s what I know. We have developed strong relationships. I am really going to miss working alongside all those people moving forward.”

Once Upon A Time Season 7 Plot

Parilla does not really know what showrunners Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis have planned for the upcoming season. She knows that they will play different characters this time around but as for details,  “[i]t’s all unknown.”

Earlier this month, ABC revealed the synopsis for the revamped fairy tale drama. According to the network, the three old characters with the two new heroes will come out of the Enchanted Forest to bring hope to the rest of the world. It teased that new and old characters might return for another round of adventure at some point.

She is also excited to see where this new chapter will bring Regina. Parilla explained that she just love the character so much because the former baddie is one of the most complicated roles she has ever played. What she wants to know in Once Upon A Time Season 7 is, will Regina finally get her happily every after?

” I’m hoping in Season 7 we’re gonna get a taste of Regina’s happiness and hopefully sustain it for some time,” she added. Regina has gained and lost love in the previous season. Parilla thinks that it is about time that she finally becomes happy.

Moana in Once Upon A Time?

One rumor going around the web is a popular animated character might crossover to the small screen in the upcoming season. Eagle-eyed fans noticed a Polynesian mask on the portal door during the sixth season finale. Because the showrunners love to leave Easter Eggs on the show, many assumed that this teases the arrival of Moana of Motunui will arrive in Once Upon A Time Season 7.

However, Horowitz was quick to nip the rumor in the bud. He told EW that those clues at the portal door just hints that the world is so much larger than Storybrooke. “It’s more of a symbolic thing that’s telling us how big our universe is and that there are many places left to be explored,” he explained.

But that does not mean that Moana will never cross paths with Regina and the rest of the cast. Previous seasons have featured Elsa and Anna of Frozen, Maleficent and, more recently, Jasmine and Aladdin. It would not be a surprise if the show gets a visit from Moana, Maui and maybe even Heihei!

Once Upon A Time Season 7 is expected to premiere later this year on ABC.
