Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison) and the heroes of Storybrooke still has one big war to conquer in Once Upon A Time Season 6. In the finale that will see the final showdown between the Savior and the Great Evil, who will emerge victoriously? Showrunners Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz talks about the upcoming finale and which characters will live to have their happily ever after.

Emma Swan Fights For Her Happy Ending

It is not every day that a heroine stands up and fight for her own happy ending, but Emma has been through a lot over the past six years. She has saved Storybrooke again and again since finding herself in the magical part of Maine. Now that her happily ever after is within an arm’s reach, will she lose her own life fighting for it?

In an interview with TV Line, Kitsis emphasized the gravity of the situation. To recall, just as Emma and Hook (Colin O’Donoghue), the Black Fairy used fairy dust in order to unleash a Dark Curse.

“We’re well aware that we’ve done a curse ‘occasionally in the past,” the co-showrunner told the site. “[B]ut this time we’re trying to do a little twist on it.”

This time, it will be more difficult to break. As Horowitz advised, it is best to view it as the Final Battle, not just a regular curse.

“It was less about thinking of it as a curse and thinking about it as, ‘What is the Final Battle,'” he explained. “We had a concept for what this Final Battle would be and we kind of worked backwards from that.”

Actress Ginnifer Goodwin, who plays the role of Snow White, adds that the dark curse will be harder to break. She pointed out that in the first season, the curse was broken by a true love’s kiss which is a staple to every good fairy tale story. “The love that it takes in the finale… I feel is categorically bigger,” she teased.

But will everyone survive?

Emma… Dies?

The Final Battle between Emma Swan and the Black Fairy, as Prince Charming himself Josh Dallas described will be epic. But the recent announcement that Morrison will not be back for Season 7 struck fear that her character will not get her happy ending and will die to protect the people she loves. The series has killed a beloved character before and, surely, her end will resonate to the future of the series.

So TV Guide asked the showrunners whether every character will make it out of the battle alive. Here is what Kitsis had to say:”Can’t promise you that.”

But, since they cannot divulge the fate of the characters, they talked about what fans would feel if the two-hour special will turn out to be the series finale. He promised that the episode will tie every loose end. He hopes that fans will feel satisfied if the show comes to an end this Sunday.
