The boys of One Direction were always stylish. But did you know that their wardrobe was actually inspired by the popular all-girl group Spice Girls?

In an interview with The Muse, Caroline Watson the band’s resident stylist revealed that she wanted the guys to be the “male equivalent to the Spice Girls.” Say what?

Before Directioners freak out, Watson clarified that she wanted each of the guys to have their own signature style.

“[In Spice Girls] Everyone wore different things and no two girls looked the same. I wanted to create that with the boys,” she said.

The guys have definitely gone a long way after appearing on the UK version of “X Factor.” They were no longer the nervous boys who wear “baggy jeans and unlaced gym boots.” Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Liam Payne all grew up to become stylish men on the cover of fashion magazines.

The guys personal preference were very much visible the way they handle themselves on stage at their concerts or even when they’re just photographed by paparazzi out and about.

Watson revealed that she was excited to style with the guys because it felt like she was working on a “blank canvas”. She then gave each guys different looks that would suit their personality.

She says Niall will always have the “sporty look” ; Zayn was the “mysterious yet high fashion guy”; Harry became popular for his bow ties and blazers; Louis had this laidback vintage style and Liam was the epitome of the boy next door.

There you have it on the latest news on One Direction. Do you agree that One Direction is the male equivalent of the Spice Girls? Did Caroline Watson do a great job and matching the boys style with their personality? Sound off in the comments below.
