Orlando Jones Joins Impressive ‘American Gods’ Cast As Mr. Nancy

Starz’ “American Gods” has officially added Orlando Jones to its impressive cast. The former “Sleepy Hollow” star will portray Neil Gaiman’s beloved character, Mr. Nancy, in the upcoming Starz series.

Coming Soon broke the news about Orlando Jones signing on to the adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s “American Gods.” In addition to Jones, “12 Monkeys” star Demore Barnes has been cast as Mr. Ibis as well.

According to Coming Soon, Mr. Nancy is actually the African trickster god named Anansi. He is a cheerful man with a personality that is as loud as his clothes. Meanwhile, Mr. Ibis’ real identity is Thoth, the Egyptian god of knowledge. He enjoys telling stories from the past.

“American Gods” is based on Neil Gaiman’s bestselling novel. In the book, an ex-convict named Shadow Moon accepts a job to be the bodyguard of the mysterious Mr. Wednesday. However, he later learns that Mr. Wednesday is actually the Norse god Odin. In addition to that, he is preparing for a war between the old and new gods. Shadow ends up helping Mr. Wednesday gather his forces. Eventually, he meets the always dashing Mr. Nancy, who becomes a valuable ally.

Additionally, Starz’s “American Gods” series already boasts of a stellar cast filled with talented actors. According to Variety,“The X-Files” star Gillian Anderson will play the new god Media. “American Gods” will reunite Anderson with “Hannibal” creator Bryan Fuller, who will serve as one of the showrunners.

Meanwhile, “The 100” actor Ricky Whittle will play Shadow Moon while Emily Browning from “Suckerpunch” will play his wife Laura. In addition to that, “Game of Thrones” star Ian McShane will portray the role of Mr. Wednesday.

“American Gods” has already started production. However, the highly-anticipated Starz series is expected to premiere in late 2016.
