The previous episode of “Orphan Black” (Episode 10 “By Means Which Have Never Yet Been Tried,” air date: June 21, 2014) was directed by John Fawcett and written by Graeme Manson. The Season 2 finale started off with Sarah surrendering herself in the DYAD institute. She was examined by another doctor to replace Delphine (Evelyn Brochu) as head of the DYAD. She even had one of her ovaries removed just to see Kira bonding with Cosima and another scary one with Rachel.
Rachel, on the other hand, seemed to have all of this planned. She had both Sarah and Kira in captive. She started on getting more information from her adoptive father by drowning him in watching home movies. Unfortunately, Ethan (Andrew Gillies) had poisoned himself and took the gene sequence along with his death. Rachel’s demise continued when she tried to confront Sarah about her knowledge. When Sarah shared that she got nothing, Rachel destroyed the precious bone marrow from Kira. In exchange, she got a pencil shot into her eye. Sarah used the improvised extinguisher she learned from Cosima and Kira’s drawing earlier.
On the other hand, Kira stole a nurse’s cell phone in order to call her father, Cal (Michiel Huisman). Cal went to Mrs. S about it. It was revealed that he hacked his way in talking to “Castor,” his internet source. Paul (Dylan Bruce), who have gone missing in the past episodes, returned at Mrs. S’ (Maria Doyle Kennedy) place after meeting with Castor, who was actually Marion (Michelle Forbes).
Despite her regressing state, Cosima learned about Delphine’s forced departure to Frankfurt. She also had her hand in taking down Rachel along with Scott. She joined Sarah and their other clones in a dancing party held at Felix’s (Jordan Gavaris) apartment. Later, she was asked by Kira to read her about a book Ethan gave her. She then found out about the sequences that Ethan wrote in order to help get cured from her mysterious respiratory illness.
Back to Sarah, she had reunited along with Kira with the help of Marion, the supposed enemy and boss of Rachel. She was informed by Marion about Topside’s attempt in producing more clones after Ethan’s postwork at the institute. It was said that from the hundreds of attempts Marion became the adoptive mother to Charlotte, a sickly kid with leg braces.
Marion told Sarah about the male counterparts of the Project LEDA, “Castor.” One of their clones was Mark (Ari Gillen) from the Prolethians. Marion also said that they failed in cloning more. However, the military had been successful after the project went into two directions. The episode ended with Helena being shipped into the military headed by Mark’s soldier clone while another clone was locked inside Marion’s mansion.
