The premiere of “Orphan Black” Season 3 involved somebody swapping and a touch of “Fifty Shades of Grey.” Episode 1 “The Weight of This Combination” simply nailed it and made us happy that the show is back.
The episode solved some of the mysteries that we’ve been wanting to unravel ever since Season 2 wrapped up: What happened to Helena? Is Rachel still alive? And a new mystery, what the hell is in Helsinki? Don’t worry because these mysteries have been solved, well, in a way.
Let’s begin with Rachel, she’s doing fine but she’s bedridden. It was because a pencil through your eye can do that to you. When she woke up, she had a hard time stringing up a few words but managed to come up with “Helsinki” to Delphine.
Meanwhile, Sarah had to impersonate Rachel because Delphine asked her to and in return to helping her track down her missing sister. A Topside “cleaner” was sent over to DYAD to investigate on its security protocols. Delphine said that the cleaner shouldn’t find out what happened to Rachel. So, that’s why Sarah had to pretend to be Rachel.
However, they were caught off guard because they didn’t know that Ferdinand (the cleaner) knows Rachel more than they do. He figured it out in the end when he couldn’t find “Rachel’s” surgery scar. Drastic times calls for drastic measures so Sarah went all Fifty shades on him when she whipped him with his own belt and almost choking him to death with it. It delighted Ferdinand but before he runs out of oxygen Delphine came and asked her to stop. Sarah then told Delphine that “Helsinki” is happening. Ferdinand got dragged away by guards and has been told to meet the Marion Bowles of Topside to report that DYAD is secure.
So, what is this “Helsinki?” We learned that the girls in Helsinki were eradicated in a day. Six clones, 32 collateral and we learned that Rachel was planning to do that on the current clones.
Then we found out what happened to Helena. She’s being held by the military and has been talking to scorpions. This scene with Helena is very weird because she’s been having dreams of the scorpion talking to her and even left her a cryptic message “You remember me, don’t you? Picture a box inside a box inside a box.” When she was freed, the scorpion said “Congratulations. You escaped the first box.” Really weird.
In other news, Allison gets back to being a suburban mom. She also tried to impersonating Sarah who is imitating Rachel and nearly gets molested by Ferdinand during an interrogation.
Cosima is alive and doing a bit better, but Delphine broke up with her. She spends a lot of time with Kyra on this episode.
The Castor Clones attacked Mrs. S trying to find Duncan then one clone told Sarah to count her sisters.
