“Outlander” Season 2 has just added a new cast member. It has been announced on Monday that the Starz series has finally found its adult Roger Wakefield… but it also seems like one cast member isn’t too happy about this casting news.
“Outlander” has found Roger Wakefield in the form of Richard Ranking, a Scottish actor and Graham McTavish who plays Dougal MacKenzie isn’t too pleased with this news. McTavish’s character is the chieftain of Clan MacKenzie who created a union with Geillis Duncan, and the product of that “union” is the ancestor of Roger who was then adopted by Reverend Wakefield.
We saw the young Roger in “Outlander” Season 1 and now he has come back as an adult for Season 2. Ranking’s character isn’t the first star in the show who has to play the ancestor and descendant at the same time because Tobias Menzies plays two roles as well as Frank and Black Jack. McTavish’s displeasure about this is that he always hoped that he would be the one playing Dougal and Roger.
According to his interview with Vulture, Ranking said “This is my plan, they just don’t know it yet. The thing about Roger is he was fully bearded from a very early age, almost ridiculously so. He had amazing facial hair for a 7-year-old. And he was bald, too! So I just don’t see any reason why they can’t cast me in the part. Think how much trouble it will save them,”
McTavish also has a wild idea on who is to play Brianna Randall, Jamie and Claire’s daughter and Roger’s love interest as well. He said that it would be a good idea to have Sam Heughan play the role of his daughter as well. He also mentioned that this can be done easily because all they have to do is put Heughan’s hair in a frock.
