Partners” Season 1 Episode 3 “Another Man’s Wingtips” and Episode 4 “Who’s Your Mama” aired on Monday, Aug. 11, 2014, at 9:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on FX. The double episode dealt with Marcus’ civil lawsuit in the first episode, while Allen helped Marcus’ mother come up with her living will in the second episode. Find out what happened to the rest of the show in the recap below.

In “Another Man’s Wingtips,” Allen (Kelsey Grammer) brought Marcus (Martin Lawrence) to Hoffman’s, his haberdashery, after Marcus’ lucky suit gave up so he needed to upgrade his wardrobe. While inside the shop, Marcus was being watched carefully by the store staff. They were shadowing his every move with the surveillance camera. When Marcus said this fact to Allen, he brushed him off and continued to enjoy the free cappuccino, and Madeleines provided by the store for its clients. But Marcus couldn’t stand the way he was being treated by the store because they were clearly judging him based on his skin color, so he left and waited outside for Allen, who later followed him.

While Allen was reasoning with him outside, telling Marcus that he may have just been sensitive about it, the store staff and the security came out to tell them that something was amiss inside the store. They searched Marcus’ pockets, but they didn’t find anything. Marcus was insulted by this, and Allen was appalled.

Back at the office, the two lawyers were talking about how they will approach this racial profiling lawsuit against Hoffman’s, until Allen noticed that he was wearing this gold watch. It’s from the store. He forgot to remove it after trying it on!

Hoffman’s sent this gorgeous African American lawyer, Dina Parker, to settle with Marcus, who was clearly smitten by her. The store initially wanted to give Marcus a gift cheque, but he invited Dina to talk about a settlement over dinner, and she agreed. Allen invited himself along, and there, disclosed that he was actually the person who mistakenly took the item from the store. Learning this, Dina then pushed for the lawsuit to go to court.

In court, the judge saw Marcus’ cause, wrongfully accused and being racially profiled, but this didn’t justify the fact that Allen still took the watch with him, and so the case was thrown out. But even if they lost the lawsuit, Marcus still emerged the winner because he was able to score another date with Dina.

The B-side of this episode featured Lizzie’s relationship with Allen. Wanting to teach his step-daughter that she cannot just easily ask for things when she wants them, Lizzie (McKaley Miller) spent some hours filing at Allen’s office so she can earn the money to buy a new cell phone. But while there, she noticed that Allen’s hotel bills didn’t jive with the reasons Allen supposedly told her mother about traveling out of town. She thought Allen was cheating on her mom. When she confronted him about this, Allen disclosed that he was in fact having those dinners at the hotel with her own father, on the wishes of her mother.  Lizzie’s father was in trouble yet again, and upon the request of her mom, Allen helped sort this out so that he wouldn’t have to bother them again.

In “Who’s Your Mama,” one of Ruth’s (Telma Jackson) friends died, leaving her estate in a shamble. She didn’t want this happening to her, so Ruth kept asking her son Marcus to help her with her will. But Marcus wasn’t comfortable about this, nor the idea that her mother would eventually pass on. Ruth turned to Allen for help instead.

What Marcus didn’t expect was that as the two worked on Ruth’s will, Allen grew more and more familiar with her mother. There were things about her that her own son didn’t even know until Allen hinted this to him. They were also having dinner together, which didn’t include Marcus because there were details that Ruth only needed to discuss with her lawyer.

Marcus grew jealous, while Allen came to find comfort in a mother, which he didn’t get from his own. The men bickered like children, and it took Ruth to pacify them. Later, the two settled their differences.

Marcus: “I appreciate everything you did.”

Allen: “Helping Ruth?”

Marcus: “No, helping me.  You know I can’t stand the thought of losing my mother.”

Allen: “Yeah, well…enjoy her while she’s still here. I had a lot of things growing up. A loving family wasn’t one of them.”

Marcus: “Well, I’m a lucky man.”

Allen: “Yes, you are. And you’re father’s dead. I wish I had that.” (Allen remained at odds with his own dad.)

The other story in this episode was about Ruth’s dead friend’s dog, which needed a new home. The staff at Marcus and Allen’s office took turns taking care of the nasty pooch, and even involved Lizzie and Laura, Allen and Marcus’ daughter’s until Laura found a good home for him.

And that’s what happened to Episode 3 “Another Man’s Wingtips” and Episode 4 “Who’s Your Mama,”  which aired on Monday, Aug. 11, 2014, at 9:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on FX. Follow Movie News Guide (MNG) for more updates about this series.
