On Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2014, at 9:00 p.m. PBS will air an hour-long tribute to Robin Williams on “Pioneers of Television.” Read on to know more details about this news story.

The Robin Williams special on PBS, “Robin Williams: A Pioneers of Television Special,” will honor the life and work of the actor, who died last Aug. 11, 2014. The show will feature interviews that Williams did in previous “Pioneers of Television” episodes, and it will also have never-before-seen footages and clips from his long career.

Friends, as well as co-workers in the industry, will also honor him in the show, including Penny Marshall (“Laverne & Shirley”), Henry Winker (“Happy Days”), Jimmie Walker (“Good Times”) and Yakov Smirnoff (“Moscow on the Hudson”); comedians Whoopi Goldberg, Louie Anderson, Pauly Shore, Paul Rodriguez, Jerry Stiller, Rick Overton and Blake Clark; and “Laugh-In” creator George Schlatter. Pam Dawber, William’s co-star in “Mork and Mindy,” will also have her moment, honoring her close friend.

Williams starred in only two television shows in his colorful career: “Mork and Mindy,” which aired from 1978 to 1982, and “The Crazy Ones,” which ran from 2013 to 2014 season. But the actor’s contribution to television has been groundbreaking, impacting and changing entertainment for the small screen.  He went on to do movies and forged a more lasting impact with his audience, earning an Academy Award for his role in “Good Will Hunting.”

PBS described Williams as television’s first improvisational genius.

“We were fortunate to sit down with Robin Williams quite recently for the ‘Pioneers of Television’ series. We wanted to share with PBS viewers the Robin that we saw – the very unassuming, caring, genuine and gentle man who took his acting seriously, but was able to make others laugh. We hope this special provides more insight to this incredible man, in his own words.” said Steve Boettcher, the show’s executive producer in a press release.

And that’s the news on “Robin Williams: A Pioneers of Television Special.” The tribute will be aired on PBS this coming Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2014. For more entertainment news and celebrity updates, check Movie News Guide (MNG) regularly.
