“Penny Dreadful” Season 1 Episode 6 “What Death Can Join Together” aired on June 15, 2014. It was directed by Coky Giedroyc and written by John Logan. The episode started off with Sir Malcolm Murray (Timothy Dalton) waiting for more information about Mina’s (Olivia Llewellyn) location. He rushed Vanessa Ives (Eva Green) to have a vision. Her move with the tarot cards gave them a clue about a “plague ship.”

Sir Malcolm and Miss Ives enlisted the help of Sembene (David Sampani) and Ethan Chandler (Josh Harnett), who had been nursing the sickly Brona Croft (Billie Piper). They immediately went to the Port of London to investigate. They were welcomed by female vampires with the fangs and gruesome appearances. They had a glimpse of Mina until the boat was engulfed by fire.

Elsewhere, Dr. Victor Frankenstein (Harry Treadaway) continued his collaboration with Professor Van Helsing (David Warner) on the master’s loyal servant, Fenton (Olli Alexander). Van Helsing shared several new information about the vampires. He noted about the case of his wife who had been transformed into one. He also told him not to share the information about Mina’s future transformation with Sir Malcolm.

Victor’s moment with the professor was short-lived as the Creature (Rory Kinnear) secretly arrived and snapped Van Helsing’s neck. He told his “father/creator” that he wanted a wife for himself. He got his heart broken after theater actress Maud Gunneson (Hannah Tointon) refused his love.

Absent from the gang’s latest quest, Vanessa went to a dinner date with Dorian Gray (Reeve Carney). He accompanied her during the tour of all of his portrait painting. After some time, they went on and had sex, but it involved a knife and drinking each other’s blood. The freaky deed endangered Vanessa by having another interaction with the creature. She immediately ran off and went looking for Sir Malcolm. The episode ended with her being repossessed again by dark forces.
