“Penny Dreadful” Season 1 Finale Episode 8 “Grand Guignol” was directed by James Hawes and written by John Logan. The previous episode of “Possession” (air date: June 22, 2014) featured a reposessed Vanessa (Eva Green) for the second time. Despite being taken for the second time, Vanessa has found an ally in Ethan (Josh Harnett). Ethan was the one who performed the exorcism for the Last Rites with the use of Brona’s (Billie Piper) St. Jude necklace.
MNG previously reported that Sir Malcolm, Vanessa and the others would head to “Grand Guignol” or “Theatre of Big Puppet Show.” It was a famed tehater for its gory and realistic horror plays and shows. It was famous during the Victorian era.
Ethan learned that Brona finally succumbed to tuberculosis. He had also been targeted by father and his crew. Season 1 Finale also marked the revelation of Ethan’s true identity. The American gunslinger was actually a werewolf. In the end, Ethan killed them all and got away safely.
Vanessa seemed set on leaving her “dangerous” relationship with Dorian Gray (Reeve Carney). It all started when they met in “Seance” and made their affair official in “What Death Can Join Together.” Vanessa bid her “soul mate” goodbye with the kiss on his lips. Dorian was taken aback when he shed a tear for Vanessa’s loss.
Caliban or the Creature (Rory Kinnear) went to Dr. Victor Frankenstein (Harry Treadaway) after he got his broken by Maud. Caliban has previously killed and snapped Professor Van Helsing’s neck to get his attention. Frankenstein’s monster asked his creator to kill him instead. Victor, on the other hand, had thought of re-animating Brona as Caliban’s immortal Bride.
On the other hand, Sir Malcolm Murray (Timothy Dalton) finally reunited with Mina (Olivia Llewyn) after killing all of the creatures. He also killed the Master Vampire who kidnapped his daughter since “Night Work.” They were almost too late that Mina turned into a blood-sucking vampire. Before Mina could suck on Vanessa’s neck, Sir Malcolm had pulled the trigger on her. The episode ended with Sir Malcolm finally accepting Vanessa as his “daughter.”
