Everyone’s favorite stalwart Captain Victoria Gates, fondly called “Sir” by her precinct, and who was portrayed by actress Penny Jerald Johnson, will not be returning come this fall for the eighth season of the show. Read on to learn more about this shocking new change in the character line up for “Castle.”
TV Line reported Johnson’s character, who had slowly but surely warmed up to the wonderful partnership between novelist Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Detective Kate Beckett (Stana Katic), will not be returning as part of the several creative changes that are taking place thanks to the new creative team of “Castle.”
According to Deadline, the actress, who took to Twitter to announce the sad news, told her fans that she had learned the news on her official Twitter account on May 30, 2015. Also, according to TV Line, she thanked her fans for their support during her run as the captain of the 12th Precinct.
This news, although saddening, seems to be a foreshadowing what Beckett, who is currently at a crossroads as she has to pick between becoming a captain, as she “aced” her captain’s exam and could have her own precinct in less than a year, and with becoming a New York State Senator, as she was being wooed to run for Senate, will decide.
If she does, however, become a captain, this would allow her to still stay within the precinct, which would allow her to still pursue cases.
