Person of Interest” Season 4 Episode 19 “Search and Destroy” aired last Tuesday, Apr. 7, 2015 at 10:00 p.m. on CBS. In this episode, John Reese (Jim Caviezel), Harold Finch (Michael Emerson) and Samantha Groves (Amy Acker), otherwise known as “Root” teamed up to protect the CEO of the world’s largest software security company after an unknown force began destroying his life, piece by piece. Meanwhile, The Machine had Root collect an item that it had need of in the future. Read on to learn more about this episode.

At the beginning of the episode, John Reese (Jim Caviezel) tried to teach Harold Finch (Michael Emerson) how to use a gun for his own protection, just in case, but he refused to touch it. They were then interrupted by a phone call from The Machine, as they had a new number- Sulaiman Kahn (Aasif Mandvi). He is the CEO of Castellum Security Software, the largest software security company in the world, and whose program was pre-installed in 86% of the devices in America. It turned out that Kahn had been hacked. Whoever did so framed him so that the board of his company would believe that he had embezzled money from the company.

At the board meeting, Zoe Morgan (Paige Turco), proved to be useful as she became John’s eyes and ears inside as it was impossible to blue jack Kahn’s phone. At the board meeting, it was revealed that Kahn was bipolar and that he had been working on a piece of biotechnology, an immunization chip. However, he was voted off his board, and all of his possessions got repossessed. While this happened, Zoe informed John that she knew that he was seeing a psychologist. She told him that whoever had hacked Kahn was “surgical”, as the attacks were targeted at him, without endangering the company itself.

Meanwhile, Samantha Groves, otherwise known as “Root”, knocked out everyone in a restaurant with some gas and stole a briefcase made out of carbon fiber weaving. Later, she knocked out the two men from whom she had stolen the case from.

Later that night, Kahn lured his business partner, Mark Lee (Stephen Kahn) to a bar and begged him to look at the energy meters of the company. He had discovered that some readings were off and that several tons of diesel fuel had been bought with company money that he had no knowledge of. He then told him that he believed that an artificial intelligence was after him. It made John and Finch realize that Samaritan was behind the attack.

John then followed him back into Castellum, as Kahn had stolen Lee’s employee card to get in. However, before John could intervene, the police arrested him for trespassing. However, upon arriving at the precinct, he and Detective Lionel Fusco (Kevin Chapman) discovered that Kahn had been immediately brought to Rikers Island on big, but trumped up charges.

At the Samaritan headquarters, Martine Rosseau (Cara Buono) obtained permission from John Greer (John Nolan) to eliminate Root once and for all.

At Rikers, John disguised himself as a prison guard and broke Kahn out of prison just in time before the other prisoners made minced meat out of him. However, they were closely followed by Samaritan’s operatives and managed to escape after their van went turn turtle as Root had arrived to bring them to the safe house.

At the safe house, Finch told them not to tell Kahn about The Machine, as he was too curious about everything, which was leading to his destruction. Kahn then told them that he knew that an artificial intelligence was after him but didn’t know why. However, his immunization chip might be one of the reasons. He also told them that the meter readings in their energy consumption were off, as it seemed like his company was powering something that needed ten times more power.

While they talked, Root found some data related to Kahn that traced to an area in the woods. There, after taking out the cameras, they went down a trapdoor where they found a technician running a global diagnostic. Finch and Kahn then realized that Samaritan had been hijacking Kahn’s software to run a search for a particular code. After seeing that, Finch told them that they had to leave.

Outside, they came under attack by Martine and the other Samaritan operatives, whom Root and John managed to fend off. However, as there were more coming, John managed to get Root. She was busy trying to strangle Martine to death. However, Kahn disappeared as Finch didn’t answer his questions.

Back at the defunct subway station, The Machine gave Root the code to open the briefcase. He told her to remove the Fabrege egg inside and to keep the case inside the subway for now.

Later, Finch told John that Samaritan had been using Kahn’s software to look for The Machine.

Meanwhile, Kahn was captured by Greer and Martine. At Samaritan’s headquarters, Greer informed him that there were two artificial intelligences in the world and that Samaritan couldn’t locate The Machine on any device. He then killed Kahn, who was a threat to The Machine.
