Marvel’s Spider-Man: Homecoming has not even opened in the U.S. yet, but plans for a sequel is already underway. Ahead of the new superhero movie’s release, lead star Tom Holland reveals what he is most excited to see in the next installment to Peter Parker’s homecoming story.

The Young Peter Parker Grows Up

Holland’s first solo superhero movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is tracking a successful relaunch of the Spider-Man. Days before the movie officially lands on the big screen, it is already receiving positive remarks from movie critics and long-time fans. It also has been generating attention social media making it one of this year’s most anticipated movies.

That is why the studio is already fast-tracking the sequel which is planned to be released some time after the still-untitled Avengers 4. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige already confirmed that Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 will take place minutes after the massive war against Thanos (Josh Brolin). So, how will the cosmic event change Peter Parker?

Holland, who is currently doing press rounds for his big blockbuster summer movie, has shared a few details about what fans can see in the sequel.

“I will be on Spider-Man 2 about mid-July next year,” the actor told Collider. “I think the most interesting thing about a young man’s life is his journey from being a boy to a man, and imagine seeing that journey while having superpowers. That’s something I know I’m definitely excited to explore. I know Kevin [Feige] and the rest of the team are very excited to explore.”

The first movie is all about Peter, a kid learning how to use his superpowers and realizing what it takes to be a superhero. That said, in the second movie, it makes sense that he becomes more mature. Add to that, the battle against Thanos and, according to rumors, losing fellow Avengers could make the young web-slinger to become the superhero that New York City needs.

As for the villain who will face the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man next, Holland didn’t divulge any details. But, thanks to a previous interview with Feige, fans can cross out the Green Goblin from the list.

Spider-Man’s Five-Movie Story Arc In The MCU

Moreover, it looks like the web-slinger will be spending more time in the MCU. After the successful reboot made possible by the agreement between Marvel and Sony, fans are worried that the latter will have to take the teen hero back especially now that the studio seems to be building a cinematic universe of its own with Venom and Silver Sable/Black Cat movies.

However, Feige shared that there is going to be more Peter Parker in the MCU. He revealed to Toronto Sun the five-movie story arc for Peter Parker in the MCU has already been drafted.

He pointed out that Captain America: Civil WarSpider-Man: Homecoming, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers 4 and Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 are parts of “an amazing five-story journey for Peter Parker. ”

He also reiterated that Spider-Man will be an integral part of the next phase of the MCU. After 22 movies leading up to the massive cinematic event that is Avengers 3 and 4, the first movie coming out of Phase 4 will be the second Spider-Man. “[T]wo months later it will be Peter and Spider-Man that usher us into the aftermath and how things proceed from there,” he explained.

Holland will, of course, expected to return to the role of Peter Parker in the planned Spider-Man: Homecoming 2. Jon Watts is also expected to direct the sequel.

In the meantime, catch Holland try to balance regular highschool responsibilities and his superhero activities as Spider-Man in Spider-Man: Homecoming. The movie will open on Friday, July 7, in theaters in the U.S. and worldwide.
