NBC stepped up its adaptation of the short-lived Australian miniseries, “The Slap,” with the addition of two prominent Hollywood stars to play the lead characters. The miniseries will star Mary-Louise Parker (“RED,” “RED 2”) and Peter Sarsgaard (“Garden State”). Read on to learn more about the latest updates on NBC’s “The Slap.”
According to Deadline, Jon Robin Baitz (“Brothers & Sisters”) will adapt while Lisa Cholodenko (“The Kids Are Alright,” “Olive Kitteridge“) will direct the first two hours of the eight-hour miniseries. It will be executively produced by Baitz, Cholodenko, Tony Ayres, Walter Parkes, Laurie MacDonald and Ted Gold. It was first ordered to series along with “Emerald,” which was based on the children’s classic “The Wonderful Wizards of Oz” by Frank L. Baum.
The upcoming domestic drama is based on the award-winning novel of the same name written by Christos Tsiolkas. It was previously adapted into a drama series for ABC1 in Australia. The series was so successful in 2011 that it was also aired in several channels internationally.
The story of “The Slap” started off with a well-off family man named Hector (Peter Sarsgaard) who was involved in a domestic accident. It was during a barbeque gathering when his cousin slapped the child of a couple for misbehaving. His cousin’s mistake will bring critical changes in life when they faced a lawsuit against the child’s family.
Furthermore, the incident will also become the start of his crumbling relationships with his wife and family as several secrets will be revealed. The series will also feature the point of views including of TV writer Anouk’s (Mary-Louise Parker). She is one of the closest friends of Hector.
Following the tried-and-tested Hollywood trend, Mary-Louise Parker and Peter Sarsgaard will star on the upcoming remake for NBC. It will mark as their return to the small screen.
Parker, who recently starred in the two “RED” franchise films, was also known for her lead role as a single mom who worked as a pot dealer for a living in “Weeds.” Sarsgaard, on the other hand, played a recurring role as Ray Shepard in the series “The Killing.” He was cast in several award-winning movies including “Blue Jasmine” and “An Education.”
