“Power” just got renewed for Season 2, and it was announced after its first episode. “Power” Season 1 Episode 1 “Not Exactly How We Planned” premiered  on Saturday, June 7, 2014, at 10:00 p.m. on Starz. Read on to find more about the latest scoop on “Power,” the newest crime-drama series from Starz.

It seemed that the premiere of the freshman series has enticed the attention of its home network because, according to Deadline, Starz ordered 10 episodes than the usual eight episodes. The season for renewal was made after the pilot episode garnered an impressive 2.6 million viewers. It also reached a rare feat of getting even gender distribution in the 18-49 age bracket, with 45% in women and 48% in men.

“Power” Season 2 will premiere in 2015. The pay cable network also announced that the series will continue its production. The cast and crew will head to its home studio in Brooklyn this coming September 2014.

The series was brought by a creative powerhouse that consists of the rapper/businessman Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, showrunner Courtney Kemp Agboh from “The Good Wife,” HBO’s “Big Love” producer David Knoller, “300” film franchise producer and Randall Emmett “End of Watch.” They tapped TV director Anthony Hemingway to lead the pilot episode written by Agboh.

“Power” stars Omar Hardwick (James “Ghost” St. Patrick), Angela Valdes (Lela Loren), Naturi Naughton (Tasha St. Patrick), Joseph Sikora (Tommy Egan), 50 Cent (Kanan), Lucy Waters (Holly), Adam Huss (Josh Kantos), Andy Bean (Greg Knox), Katherine Narducci (Frankie Lavaro), Luis Antonio Navarro (Carlos “Vibora” Ruiz), Sinqua Walls (Shawn) and Greg Serano (Agent Juan Julio Medina).

In the same article, “Power” showrunner Courtney Kemp Agboh and 50 Cent expressed their gratitude to Starz, including CEO/President Chris Albrecht and Managing Director Carmi Zlotnik.

“‘Power’ is a project extremely close to my heart and working with Chris Albrecht, Carmi Zlotnik and the Starz team has been the perfect fit for this. Viewers may be loving the start of season one now, but season two will blow them away,” said Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson in the Deadline article.

And that’s it for the “Power” update. That was fast, right?  Did you enjoy the premiere episode? What can you say about its anti-hero storyline? How about 50 Cent’s performance as a drug-dealing thug?
