The film that started the ascent of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s (“Terminator”) Hollywood career in 1987 is getting a reboot. The 20th Century Fox brings back “Predator,” and the studio has hired Shane Black (“Iron Man 3”) to direct the movie. The esteemed scriptwriter and director will also be tasked to write the treatment for the reboot, along with Fred Dekker. Read on to find out about the latest “Predator” movie.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Black, who has written and directed blockbusters like “Iron Man 3” and “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang,” is no stranger to the “Predator” project, having been part of the original movie when it was filming in 1986. The story goes that 20th Century Fox had wanted Black to polish the script for Schwarzenegger starrer back in 1986, but he would always refuse, even as the studio sent him to the South America set and gave him a minor role in the original “Predator.”

“Predator” follows the story of commandos trying to survive the jungle while being haunted by a deadly and unknown creature.  John Davis directed the first movie.

Over the decades, 20th Century Fox has managed to keep the “Predator” franchise going with the release of several installments, like the sequel in 1990, which did not include Schwarzenegger, and the third movie in 2010, which starred Adrien Brody (“The Pianist”). The franchise also combined with one of 20th Century Fox’s strong sci-fi action franchise with the release of films like “Alien vs. Predator” in 2004 and “Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem” in 2007.

With the “Predator” reboot still in its initial stages, Black is currently working on a 1970s crime movie “The Nice Guys.” Originally set for television, the project will instead feature in the big screen and may have stars like Russell Crowe (“Noah”) and Ryan Gosling (“The Notebook”) attached to it. The director is also developing a movie based on Doc Savage, a famous Pulp Magazine character from the 1930s, with Chris Hemsworth (“Thor”) likely to play the lead.
