It has only been in the past few years that superheroes origin story is fully shown and fleshed out on the small screen, thanks to ongoing hit television shows such as the CW’s “Arrow”, who has just recently changed its title to “Green Arrow”, marking the fact that Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell), after three entire seasons, has finally embraced his superhero alter ego and has finished the quest that he had embarked on when he first returned to Starling City. Now, however, with Oliver and Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards) gone for a much needed vacation, with Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman) as the new Ra’s al Ghul, and with the rest of Team Arrow, including Thea Queen (Willa Holland) making sure that the now Star City’s streets are safe, fans and viewers are wondering as to what will happen next, as the show begins, quite literally, a new chapter and phase into the evolution of Oliver Queen and his team. Thankfully, the show’s producer, Wendy Mericle, has provided some insight into what is in store for Team Arrow, especially as several casting announcements that will greatly impact the fourth season have just been released. WARNING: This article contains spoilers for the upcoming fourth season of “Arrow.” Read on only to learn more as to what will happen next to Team Arrow, and to learn about the two new faces that have just been added to the cast.
The third season of the hit CW superhero show, “Arrow” ended not only with a bang, but also signaled the end of a chapter for Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) and his team. Oliver finally realized that the quest that drove him back home and to become a vigilante- “to save his city,” was finally over.
With that, Oliver and his lady love, Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards), the team’s trusty hacker and computer whiz, left the city, in order to take a long and much deserved vacation. After all, Starling City, now Star City, was left in the very much capable hands of John Diggle (David Ramsey), Laurel Lance or the Black Canary (Katie Cassidy) and Thea Queen (Willa Holland).
With regards to the flashbacks, the main storyline, which followed Oliver from Lian Yu to Hong Kong, finally wrapped up. Oliver headed down to Coast City for some time alone.
According to Collider’s interview with producer Wendy Mericle, during the recently concluded Television Critics Association summer press tour, the fourth season is rife new possible storylines for Oliver and his team.
With regards to Oliver, when he and Felicity return from their romantic vacation together, a few months after the events of the season finale, viewers and fans will finally see the two trying their best to make their relationship work. It was even while they are fighting crime together. Mericle teased that the two will come back “happy”, and that they will have to struggle with a certain sense of normalcy. It was because of everything they have been through, is somewhat unusual for them.
Mericle also teased that the flashbacks will be much different from before, as it will be a big contrast from his current emotional state. Show creator and showrunner Marc Guggenheim, in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, confirmed that the flashbacks will run parallel to Oliver’s current relationship with Felicity. It was also reported that it will feature actress Elysia Rotaru as a past lover in Coast City, after the events of the final flashback in the third season.
For the rest of the team, Mericle teased that Diggle, who will now be a full fledge vigilante in his own right, will have his own code name. She will be struggling with the very same thing that Oliver had been struggling with before- a dual identity.
As for Thea, she will come into her own, but she will, of course, struggle with some of the side effects that remained after being resurrected thanks to Ra’s al Ghul’s Lazarus Pit.
As for the new R’as, Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman), Mericle teased that fans and viewers will be seeing the return of the Malcolm Merlyn that fans had been greeted with in the first season- a cunning leader, who, more often than not, looks out for only himself.
Aside from this, Entertainment Weekly has just learned actor Matt Ward will be portraying the villain Simon Lacroix, otherwise known as Komodo, in the upcoming season.
According to the report, Komodo is a deadly archer and one of Oliver Queen’s adversaries in the New 52 incarnation of “Green Arrow.”
Guggenheim, after being asked about Komodo’s appearance, revealed that this will be part of a new shift with regards to show’s format, which includes making the weekly villains that the team has to against, be crucial to the season long, overarching plot.
And that was all for the spoilers and updates for the fourth season of “Arrow.” For more news, updates and recaps on “Arrow” and other returning television shows, keep on following Movie News Guide (MNG).
