The people behind the FOX comedy series “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” have confirmed that a potential love story will be blossoming between two of its beloved characters. Find out more in the details below.
It almost happened in the first season and it was briefly talked about early this second season, but fans wishing for a potential Jake (Andy Samberg) and Amy (Melissa Fumero) hookup in the series will have to count on these two characters eventually ending up together. It’s going to happen said the show’s producers in an interview with Entertainment Weekly (EW). Only, don’t get too excited as the development of their relationship will be slow-burning.
In the last episode, Jake has recently become single and free. Sophia (guest star Eva Longoria), his girlfriend of a few months, decided to break up with him (in the episode: “Defense Rests” air date Jan. 25, 2015). She said that she doesn’t see their world fitting together. Amy, on the other hand, has broken up with her boyfriend Teddy (guest star Kyle Bornheimer) ahead of Jake and Sophia (in the episode “The Road Trip” air date Nov. 30, 2014). It should be recalled that in the same November episode, Jake found out Amy actually liked him, causing some tension with her and Teddy.
In the EW article, Samberg himself said that Jake and Amy will definitely become a couple. on the other hand, the producers implied that the romantic progression may not be immediate.
“The plan with them was always that their version of whatever kind of romantic attraction they had for each other was going to be a really slowly developing thing that was punctuated by different moments,” said Mike Schur, one of the show’s writers and executive producers in the EW interview. He stated there will be some developments in this relationship this season, especially with a storyline coming up with Jake and Amy working together on a case again.
But the producers insisted that the romantic tension between Jake and Amy is not the main focus of the show. Still, Schur hinted that fans of the series will enjoy the way these two characters develop as partners at work and in their personal relationship moving forward
He added: “There’s a new tone to how they tease each other as opposed to when we first started.”
