According to a press release published on Zap2It, production for the 10-episode space drama, “The Expanse,” is currently underway in Toronto, Canada. The show is being prepared for debuting on the cable network in 2015.

The story of “The Expanse” takes place 200 years from now, and man has already explored most of the solar system. The main characters feature a tough detective (Thomas Jane “Hung”) and a captain (Steven Strait “Magic City”) of a rogue ship. The two band together to track a missing woman. Their quest takes them across planets and territories in the solar system, while they come closer to unraveling the greatest conspiracy of all time.

The series will also have guest stars like Jonathan Banks (“Breaking Bad), Paulo Costanzo (“Royal Pains”), and Jay Hernandez (“Gang Related”) and Oscar nominee Shohreh Aghdashloo (“House of Saddam”) as Chrisjen Avasarala, from a political family.

The first episode of “The Expanse,” which sets the tone for the whole series, was written by Mark Fegus and Hawk Ostby, who are also aboard the project as showrunners. At least two episodes of the series will be helmed by Terry McDonough, who has directed episodes of “Breaking Bad” and “Suits.”

The show was originally pitched and developed by Sean Daniel and Jason Brown for the cable network, and the two will work on the set as executive producers.

“The Expanse” takes pages from the New York Times bestselling and award-winning book series of the same title, which was written by Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck, using the pen name James S. A. Corey. The two will also be part of the TV show as producers.
