Joey Kovar who starred in The Real World on MTV died on Friday. Authorities said his body was found in south suburban Chicago Ridge. The native from Evergreen Park was 29 and had appeared in Real World and VH1’s Celebrity Rehab.
An aspiring actor and body builder, Kovar was found bleeding from the nose and ears by a friend at an apartment. He was pronounced dead by authorities who arrived shortly after the friend called 911. Police in Chicago Ridge said they do not believe any foul play was involved. On Saturday, an autopsy will be performed to find the cause of Kovar’s death.
Kovar was known to have a history of alcohol and drug abuse although family members claimed he was sober for the last six months and disputed reports that he died due to overdosing on drugs.
David his brother said the entire family was in shock as everything had been going well for Joey and the last thing he and his family believe is that drugs were involved.
Kovar’s problems to remain sober have been well documented from his appearances on The Real World, where he entered a rehab program for 30 days during the season. Later, in Celebrity Rehab 3, he sought further treatment for ecstasy and cocaine use along with fellow addicts Tom Sizemore, Mackenzie Philips and Dennis Rodman, the former Chicago Bull.
After hearing about the death of Kovar, Phillips tweeted that her heart was broken and that she sent love to his family.
