Following just yesterday’s comments from writer-director Drew Goddard that “Sinister Six” could still be made and exist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it could actually prove to be a perfect way for Marvel to send a reply to DC’s “Suicide Squad.” Should Marvel choose to go ahead with the movie, here are a few reasons why “Sinister Six” could prove to be a real good spin-off.
MTV News states that every Marvel movie for a while has been superhero-centric where the bad guys do their thing only to be taken down by the superheroes. In a spin-off movie like “Sinister Six,” all the Spider-Man villains will gang up and decide to take down the bug problem that they have been having. This could actually make the movie villain centric for a change and put it on the lines of “Suicide Squad.” The only difference here is that we will still have Spider-Man to fight the bad guys; only thing is that the bad guys will be too much to handle.
Secondly, there are so many Spider-Man villains that fans are aware of and at one point of time it will become a necessity to introduce them. A movie like “Sinister Six” could prove to be just the perfect platform these bad guys need. We have seen Electro, Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, but what about Vulture, Mysterio, Kraven the Hunter, Venom and a little bit more of the Rhino.
Third reason is the commitment Drew Goddard has for Marvel. A self proclaimed Marvel kid, Drew wants to focus more on the script of “Sinister Six.” The media outlet also added that he backed out of being a showrunner for Marvel’s “Daredevil” even when it was a sure shot deal.
Fourth reason is the one that he gave yesterday. He purposely wanted to present a movie that would not have to worry about mythology and continuity, which means it could fit into any direction that Marvel chooses to go to. Finally, it’s time for Marvel to use other villains from their roster since they have only used Loki, Ronan the Accuser and Ultron. Thanos too is making his way to the Marvel Cinematic Universe but it will be a while before he wrecks havoc in the MCU.
International Business Times added that if Sony had continued with their plans, “Sinister Six” movie would have been a standalone movie in “The Amazing Spider-Man” franchise with Andrew Garfield as the web slinger. The Untitled “Spider-Man” movie is scheduled to release in July 2017.
