Reese Witherspoon is out to prove to everybody that she’s not anyone’s sweetheart.

Trying to lead by example to female Hollywood stars, Witherspoon started her own production company two years ago after observing that her favorite actresses are fighting to get the same role in a movie.

She further said that women in Hollywood deserves better in not just in roles but also in the whole creative process of film making. She notes that although it is always great to speak against the inequality in the entertainment industry, doing something about is much better.

Witherspoon’s name was attached to the adaption of the book “Gone Girl” as its producer. She also starred and produced the movie “Wild,” another adaptation from a book. Her performance for this film has earned her an Academy Award for Best Actress. The last time that she was nominated for the same category was in the 2006 for the film “Walk the Line.”

She said in an interview for the Oscat Nominees Luncheon that she set out with the goal of wanting to help create and develop materials for film that caters to strong female characters. She added that she wanted to produce films that could put some good into this world.

The two films that center on the female lead are quite dissimilar from each other in terms of the story they are telling. On the other hand, both movies focus on the hyper-independence of the women and have contributed in the society’s discussion not just about feminism in general but also the role of women in film and in the industry.

Her movie “Wild” tells the real-life story of Cheryl Strayed, who went to hike over a thousand miles of the trail of the Pacific Crest after the demise of her mother.

In the same luncheon interview, Witherspoon expressed gratitude for the film, and it serves as one of the greatest gifts of her acting career. She tells on how much the film challenged her on every aspect of her being. She also thanked her director Jean-Marc Vallee for being a part of that challenge, something that she hasn’t felt before.
