Rihanna was declared as the best-selling digital artist of all time, dominating the music industry like a queen. Read on for more details.
According to Morning News USA, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) named the 27-year-old singer as the first recording artist in history to achieve and surpass 100 million digital sales.
RIAA chairman and CEO Cary Sherman was the first one to praise and congratulate the historical milestone maker singer.
In his written statement, Sherman said that Rihanna has not only surpassed RIAA’s one-hundred million mark, but also was the first artist to do so.
“It’s an historic feat and a statement to an extraordinary career,” Sherman said.
Sherman also added that Gold and Platinum is the industry’s “premier way to celebrate achievement in the marketplace.” They have been giving recognitions to artists for nearly 60 years, but “it’s rare that they have the opportunity to recognize a milestone like the one Rihanna has reached.”
The singer celebrates her achievement by posting on her Instagram. She showed her creativity by starting off her caption with the words “histoRIH,” replacing the word “ry” with her nickname “RIH” as a pun.
Meanwhile, as of July 1, Rihanna holds the highest number of digital sales, followed by Taylor Swift with 88 million, just ahead of Katy Perry who got 79 million digital sales while Kanye West and Lady Gaga complete the top five lists, getting 46.5 million and 39.5 million.
On the other hand, fans of the “Diamonds” singer went gaga when it was reported that she is set to release her eighth album “R8,” her first since her Unapologetic in 2012.
Based on the released report by London Evening Standard, The album will feature “Four Five Seconds,” her collaboration with Sir Paul McCartney and Kanye West – as well as “B**** Better Have My Money” (BBHMM).
