When you’re an in demand behind-the-scene creative personnel in Hollywood, conflict of interests are bound to surface. For helmsman, producer and playwright Roberto Orci, he had to choose between “Star Trek 3” or “Power Rangers.” He chose the former. Read on to find out why.
When you’re an overly talented person like Roberto Orci, you’re most likely to get involved in numerous science fiction and action movies that surface in Hollywood. Working on multiple studios now, he’s never encountered a conflict of projects… that is until now. Recently, he’s been the serving helmsman for the third installment of the “Star Trek” franchise and at the same time very avidly involved in the current developments as the executive producer for the “Power Rangers” movie. With so many progresses unfolding before both films at the same time, the first-time director then chose to pursue “Star Trek 3” over “Power Rangers.” In addition to the heavily gravitated role, Orci is also more deep rooted for the “Enterprise” franchise ever since it was rebooted by J.J. Abrams back in 2009.
Based on IGN’s feature, Deadline was the first to release the confirmation that Orci chose to direct the third installment of “Star Trek” over pursuing his role as the executive producer of “Power Rangers.” He was supposed to be in the middle of handling the developments of the film with “X-Men: First Class” screenplay writers Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller, but he had to drop it because of the collision of release dates. Apparently, “Power Rangers” is slated to be released on July 22, 2016, which falls in the same season where “Star Trek” is also targeted to be released in time for its 50th anniversary. This then lead him to come into terms that he cannot fully commit to both projects at the same time, and he concludes by dropping “Power Rangers.”
Logically putting things in perspective, Cinema Blend shares that Orci made a reasonable decision choosing “Star Trek 3” over “Power Rangers.” Despite the fact that it is his first time in the director chair, one cannot simply discard the fact that he’s made great contributions in the creation of the film ever since it was rebooted by original helmsman J.J. Abrams. To date, it’s still unclear whether his decision would affect the progressive outcome of “Power Rangers.” It’s been said to be a modern reinvention of the franchise that features a group of adolescent students acquiring paranormal powers — powers that they will utilize in defending Earth from evil.
