Let’s subtle things down for upcoming “Star Wars:The Force Awakens” for a brief moment and settle on the latest developments for “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”.
According to Indie Wire, the first spin-off of the anthology which will draw its narrative from characters coming from the “Star Wars” lore which be more of a “period piece”.
“I just have this very simple idea, about the rebel spies in the opening crawl of ‘A New Hope’ who steal the plans for the Death Star,” Lucasfilm CCO John Knoll reminisced his concept which fueled the project.
Kiri Hart of Lucasfilm Story Group implied that they will be favoring the bravery of “Star Wars” characters that are not proficient with the lightsaber, as it has always been the strong point of the franchise.
“…The benefit of making additional episodes that move forward on the timeline is that we are making new space for ourselves,” she added to the indispensability of a period movie.
“Rogue One” will be sandwiched by the ill-fated happenings of Episode III: Revenge of the Sith with a grown-up Anakin Skywalker turning to the “Dark Side” and the aptly title Episode IV: A New Hope with a young Luke Skywalker being mentored as a young jedi knight by Obi-Wan Kenobi.
The stand-alone story will star Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen and Forest Whitaker.
Gareth Edwards will be directing the space opera which as mentioned in Cinema Blend will be a stark warfare movie akin to those 1970’s Vietnam combat classics like Hamburger Hill, Platoon, and Full Metal Jacket.
Slashfilm has reported that the “Rogue One” film production has housed itself on seven soundstages at the Pinewood Studios in London.
An enthusiastic Edwards adorned by set gear and grime was quoted saying:
“I feel I know this universe,” he says. “It feels like going back home, the place you live in your fantasy life.”
