Ron Perlman was fantastic as a beast from hell in “Hellboy,” and now he is part of “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.” The granite-faced Perlman is joining the Harry Potter spin-off with Eddie Redmayne, and he may just be one of them, ‘fantastic beasts’ in the title.
Ron Perlman has joined the cast of the Warner Bros project, according to Hollywood Reporter, and their ‘inside sources’ tell them that he may be playing a goblin (we would have assumed the mysterious Perlman would play a beast more majestic: like a griffin or the invisible squid).
“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” is already shooting in London with protagonist Eddie Redmayne who plays Newt Scamander, the wizarding world’s ‘preeminent magizoologist.’ The project is being developed by WB as ‘at least a trilogy’ with the first film being based in 1920’s London.
It is not expected that Harry Potter and Ron Weasley will make an appearance because it is almost seventy years before their time. In fact, ‘FBAWTFT’ is part of Harry Potter’s first year textbooks in Hogwarts. But then again, the twin forces of Harry Potter magic and Harry Potter fan pressure have made stranger things come true.
Joining Ron Perlman and Redmayne in “Fantastic Beasts..” are Katherine Waterston as Tina; Colin Farrell as wizard Graves; Alison Sudol as Queenie- sister of Tina; Ezra Miller as Credence; Dan Fogler as Jacob; Samantha Morton as Mary Lou; Faith Wood-Blagrove as Modesty and Jenn Murray as Chastity. In addition, Carmen Ejogo, Gemma Chan and Jon Voight have also joined the project recently, but their roles are yet to be known.
Colin Farrell, in particular, seemed excited for the movie in a recent interview, where he spoke about joining the Harry Potter world, saying,
“Doing a bit on that, yeah, doing a spin-off thing. I’m shooting that now in London. Yeah, it’s good fun. It’s a beautiful big world and you kind of slot yourself into it.”
