“Rosemary’s Baby” is set to premiere as a miniseries starring the very beautiful Zoe Saldana (“Star Trek,” “Avatar”) on NBC. If you’re anxiously waiting, it will premiere on Mother’s Day! Deadline reported that the network finally gave the show’s “delivery dates,” which will air on May 11, 2014 and May 15, 2014 at 9 p.m.
NBC’s modern adaptation of “Rosemary’s Baby” is directed by Agnieszka Holland (“Treme”) and written by Scott Abbott (“Introducing Dorothy Dandridge”) and James Wong (“American Horror Story”).
Are you a fan of the blockbuster sci-fi films “Star Trek” and “Avatar?” Saldana played the roles of the alien warrior Neytiri in “Avatar” and Spock’s love interest Nyota Uhura in “Star Trek.” This time, she will showcase her acting chops on the aforementioned upcoming miniseries.
According to Deadline, she will lead the modern adaptation based on the best-selling horror novel written by Ira Levin. The story centres on an expecting mother and her husband who will move into an antique apartment hidden with a sketchy past. They were given warnings about the place’s dark history, but they chose not to listen to them. Eventually, they will learn that their eccentric neighbors had set eyes on their unborn child.
The 35-year old star will play Rosemary Woodhouse, the iconic role that was first portrayed by Mia Farrow in Roman Polanski’s classic horror film “Rosemary’s Baby” in 1968. Patrick J. Adams (“Suits”) is set to play Rosemary’s husband, who is a struggling actor named Guy. The male lead role was previously played by John Cassavetes. Jason Isaacs (“Harry Potter,” NBC’s “Awake”) will take on Sidney Blackmer’s role as the warlock and coven-leader. Carole Bouquet (“For Your Eyes Only”) will portray the role as the coven leader’s wife and neighbor of Rosemary and Guy.
NBC’s head of Long form Quinn Taylor pointed out that the network is indeed happy with Saldana’s casting on the miniseries.
“Zoe has proven that she is one of our most gifted actresses, and we think she has the perfect combination of spirit and gravitas to take on the title role from Ira Levin’s infamous novel.”
