With “Bad Teacher” cancelled on CBS last season, Ryan Hansen is moving on to another bad girl in NBC’s “Bad Judge.” The actor has signed on to play the lover of Kate Walsh’s character. The series is coming to NBC this October. Read further to learn more about Ryan Hansen’s role and other casting updates about “Bad Judge.”

According to TV Line, Ryan Hansen will be playing the role of a psychiatrist named Gary Boyd in the upcoming half-hour comedy. The character also works as the court’s expert witness. His dalliance with the sexually unapologetic Rebecca Wright (Kate Walsh) figures a lot into the the story. The role of Boyd is actually a recast. Mather Zickel (“Bones”) was originally set to play the role and even finished filming the pilot. The actor, however, left the series afterwards due to creative reasons, according to reports.

Hansen’s entry comes after the actor’s last TV gig with “Bad Teacher,” which was cancelled by CBS this summer after an unsuccessful first season run. The actor is also going to lead “Play It Again, Dick,” the web series spinoff for “Veronica Mars,” reprising his Dick Casablancas role. Production for the spinoff will supposedly not be in conflict with the filming for “Bad Judge.”

Meanwhile, the show has also upped the status of Miguel Sandoval (“The Closer) to series regular. The veteran Latino star, who plays Walsh’s character’s superior, Judge Connors, was originally set to guest star in the  pilot episode only. But his role has become one of the supporting figures in the series and will be seen regularly. Sandoval has worked in shows like “Medium,” “Dallas” and “Entourage,” aside from “The Closer.”

“Bad Judge” centers on a well-respected judge from the San Bernandino County bench, who leads an alternate life as a party girl when she’s not in court. The series is part of NBC’s revamp of their Thursday night programming, after many of its critically-acclaimed comedies like “The Office” and “30 Rock” have gone off the air. The show is produced by Will Ferrell, Adam McKay and Anne Heche.

And that’s the latest on “Bad Judge,” which welcomes the addition of Ryan Hansen and Miguel Sandoval as cast regulars. The show will begin on Oct. 2, 2014 on NBC. Follow Movie News Guide (MNG) for more updates.
