Watch how a cat urges the primal killing instincts in Ryan Reynolds in the dark-comedy “The Voices.” In “The Voices,” Jerry (Ryan Reynolds), an upbeat man with a different perception of the world, is mentally ill and is avoiding taking his medications. Jerry gets along with everyone at his bathroom factory in a small blue-collar town called Milton, so when the office girls get a good look at him and develop competing crushes, he has to step out of his comfort zone and speak to actual human beings. Problem is, he is having hallucinations Mr. Whiskers, his cat, is telling him to be a serial killer, while Bosco, his loyal bull mastiff, argues with Mr. Whiskers and insists that he is good.
So when Jerry sorta accidentally-on-purpose kills one of his pretty co-workers, he finds it difficult to cap those tendencies, and before long, his apartment is full of body parts packed neatly in Tupperwear and a fridge full of severed heads. Jerry reluctantly takes his medication again and realizes that the reality of his life is already far more violent than he had perceived it to be.
“The Voices” stars Ryan Reynolds, who also provides the voices for Mr. Whiskers and Bosco, Anna Kendrick, Gemma Arterton, Jacki Weaver, Stephanie Vogt, Adi Shankar, Ella Smith, Alessa Kordeck and Gulliver McGrath. The R-rated pic is directed by Iranian filmmaker, Marjane Satrapi who has directed films such as “Persepolis,” “Chicken with Plums” and “Gang of the Jotas.”
