“Salem” Season 1 Episode 2 “The Stone Child” Recap:

“Salem” Season 1 Episode 2 “The Stone Child” (air date: April 27, 2014) began with John Alden’s homecoming to Salem after a decade of serving as a soldier during the war. He was later informed that a lot has changed not only in his hometown, but also to Salem’s townspeople.

On the other hand, TV Fanatic reported that Mary (Janet Montgomery) is still on her quest to being the most powerful witch in their town. It was revealed in the “Salem” Season 1 Episode 1 “The Vow” (air date: April 20, 2014) that she was pregnant when John Alden left.

Her status as an unwed pregnant woman was not really good for her. She was forced to sacrifice their unborn love child to witchcraft in fear of facing the consequences such as being stoned to death or branded. Now, she continues her pursuit in seeking her revenge to the Puritans who have implored her before.

It is still vague if John and Mary may or may not have feelings of abhorrence for each other. John learned that she is now married to one of the most influential man in their town. He also interested in knowing what power lurks in their town, but he doesn’t know that his former love is involved. There is a chance for him to claim a seat at the Selectmen board to probe further.

On the other hand, Mary is focused on having the payback she truly deserved. She had already started to dominate in the town as she blinds the townspeople by using a possessed young woman named Mercy (Elise Eberle). Mary targeted Mercy with unknown, violent afflictions to make the Puritans blame each other.

This episode also revealed that the former lovers are now at the two different paths. Will their feelings hinder them from attaining their goals or lure them to fall in the traps of their desires?

Elsewhere, Magistrate Hale (Xander Berkeley) is not happy with the recent events that has happened in Salem. Adding another blow is his daughter ‘s affection for the war hero who was thought dead before. John is not helping either as he sees the personality of his former lover in Anne (Tamzin Merchant).

Mary, on the other hand, had found an ally and apprentice in the mysterious and secretive woman named Tituba (Ashley Madekwe). Her main reasons for helping out Mary is still unknown.
