Previously on “Salem,” “Ashes, Ashes” featured John (Shane West) during the trial for all his crimes, including the alleged witchcraft. The previous episode ended with Mary (Janet Montgomery) finally telling John her real identity as Salem’s top witch. She transported herself and her lover in the woods from his prison cell.

In “All Fall Down,” John and Mary realized that they were still in love with each other. They even brought the broken halves of the coin that symbolized their unending devotion. Mary agreed to John that they should ran away from Salem together. But first, Mary had to finish something.

Meanwhile, Cotton (Seth Gabel) learned that Increase (Stephen Lang) knew John was really innocent from being a witch. He told Cotton that John was guilty of loving and being loved by Mary, a witch. At first, Cotton refused to acknowledge this information when he received a letter from Isaac. It said that John was missing from his prison cell. He immediately went to his father’s place to ask if he killed his friend.

Mary was now packing her belongings when Tituba (Ashley Madewke) arrived. Tituba convinced Mary to finish the Grand Rite in exchange of any information about her and John’s love child, whom she sacrificed to become a full-fledged witch. Mary chose her child and proceeded on finishing her mission.

Elsewhere, Magistrate Hale (Xander Berkeley) and his family were inside a secret hiding place in Salem. Anne (Tamzin Merchant) got mad after learning that she’s a witch. Hale confessed several secret he hid from Anne. It was said that a young Anne practiced her powers at the place, but Hale had to erase all her memories until she’s ready.

Back at Increase’s place, Cotton arrived to see a chained Mary. He didn’t knew that Mary used her powers to appear to be chained by his father. Increase tried to convince that Mary was lying about everything. Unfortunately, Cotton’s feelings got better of him and killed his father with a sword. Mary told him to leave Salem in order to avoid more scandals.

Anne and her family learned that Mary was successful in completing the Grand Rite. It was after Increase got killed while Isaac was critically hurt by the Mallum. Increase’s remains were given to the dogs who was supposed to capture John. Anne remained mad that Mary was indeed the most powerful witch in Salem. She was also not happy that everyone in Salem must die because of Mary’s grand rite. In her witch state, Anne had killed both her father and mother during her fit.

Mercy (Elise Eberl) had proclaimed herself as the “Queen of the Night” despite Mary’s success. She was also the one who used her powers to distract Mary with flying dismembered body parts. On the other hand, John ran away after knowing that Mary might not join him. He was almost hanged by Increase’s men when an arrow broke the rope. He got wounded, but it seemed that the Mohawks were happy to heal him again.
