“Salem” Season 1 Episode 6 “The Red Rose and the Briar” (air date: May 25, 2014) is directed by PJ Pesce and written by Joe Menosky & Adam Simon.

The episode began with a present rift between Mary Sibley (Janet Montgomery) and the members of their coven. The witches wanted to take John Alden away, who have been snooping around since he arrived. They wanted him banished from seeking further about the disturbing witch craft and sorcery happening in their town.

Elsewhere, John and Cotton Mather (Seth Gabel) had succeeded in using their plan with the box or called “Malum” by the witches. They had caught an old witch and Mary’s mentor, Rose, who was supposed to receive that package from Hooke. Unfortunately, Rose had her own plans including killing them with the zombies she woke with her own blood.

Mary continue to be bombarded by the Coven problem, which probably John Alden himself. She had found an ally and a minion with Mercy (Elise Eble), who wanted to be like Mercy. She had Rose killed by her and the zombies immediately stopped from haunting Adler and Cotton.

Tituba (Tamzin Merchant) had a hard time accepting Mercy as her “new sister.” She told Mary all about it, but Mary said that it was part of a plan. With Mercy on their side, she cannot pinpoint Mary’s true identity as a witch if she’s now one of them.

On the other hand, Anne received a surprising visit. She was shocked when the robbed figure revealed her supposed dead mother. Her mother told her that it’s about time to talk about their father.

According to the official episode synopsis posted on Spoiler TV, Mary (Janet Montgomery) reignites her previous blooming relationship with her lover, John Alden. Now, Rose has died and failed to stop Mary and John. Can they stay together for good? How about their separate relationships with Anne and Mary’s husband, George?

Cotton gets hold of another unique topic that he could use in the Salem witch trials. With the help of John, he had almost failed to save themselves from the zombies until Mary ordered Mercy to kill Rose. Have they learned something from their encounter with Rose? What could be the Cotton’s ‘unique accusation?

With the failed events of the trials, a very powerful witch hunter arrives at Salem. Who could it be? Can he help John and Cotton to find out more about the witches? Is he an ally or a threat to Mary and her coven?
