‘Saved By the Bell’ Star Dustin Diamond Charged with Felony After Stabbing Incident

Dustin Diamond, known for playing the role of Screech from the TV show “Saved By the Bell,” was charged with offenses after allegedly stabbing somebody on Dec. 26, 2014. He could be imprisoned for 10 years if convicted.

The 37-year-old actor was arrested on Friday morning after Christmas from a bar brawl in Port Washington, Wisconsin. He was charged with possession of hidden weapon, second-degree of felony, recklessly endangering safety and disorderly conduct.

Amanda Schutz, his fiancée, was also arrested for disorderly conduct.

According to ABC News, the couple was barhopping until they arrived at Grand Avenue Saloon. Three drunken people confronted them with insults that incited the pair to have a fight with them.

BBC News wrote that the couple got into a fight with a woman and two men. Schutz was bloody after fighting with the woman, while Diamond was grabbed by people during the chaos.

Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported that one of the men found a stab mark in his right armpit about half an inch wide. According to the police, the injury was bloody but not severe at all.

According to BBC News, the actor and his fiancée ran away before the police arrived. However, Diamond’s SUV was caught by authorities. A folding knife with a 3.75-inch blade was found in the car. The blade still had blood on its tip.

Diamond gave inconsistent answers during questioning. He admitted accidentally stabbing the man. He could not recall if he used a pen or a knife. However, he confessed carrying the weapon for self-defense and using it to protect his fiancée during the brawl.

The actor presented himself at Ozaukee County court where a $10,000 bail was fixed. The next hearing was arranged on Dec. 29, 2014.

According to ABC News, felony could result to 10-year imprisonment. In Wisconsin, it was Diamond’s first ever criminal case.

TMZ reported that Diamond was having financial problems after “Saved By the Bell” finished its franchise. His home in Wisconsin had undergone near-foreclosure several times for the last five years.
