“Most people are so ungrateful to be alive, but not you … not anymore.” “Those who do not appreciate life do not deserve life.” These famous lines of Jigsaw or John Kramer from the movie series “Saw” either gave everyone the scare or made people scramble to prove that they appreciate life even if they knew that the films were fictional. After six long years, fans will once again be treated to another gruesome movie. Well, kind of. The eighth installment of the movie series, which will be titled “Saw Legacy,” will start filming this year and will be released next year.
It was previously rumored that the release date for “Saw Legacy” will be revealed in the 2016 San Diego Comic-Con. Although the movie was not mentioned in the schedule, some are speculating that a surprise panel for the movie will be revealed. But there is some good news! Fans do not have to wait for the Comic-Con to know when the gory psychological horror film will hit the theaters.
On a report by MovieWeb, “Saw Legacy” will be released on Oct. 27, 2017, just in time for the Halloween weekend. However, there is tough competition in the genre for that particular weekend and even greater competition in the entire box office arena for October and November.
Another horror box office hit movie will be released in the same month just one week before the eighth “Saw” movie. “Insidious: Chapter 4” is set to hit the theaters on Oct. 20, 2017, giving it seven days before “Saw Legacy” and five days before the release of the megahit “Thor: Ragnarok” on Oct. 25, 2017.
Just by the genre alone, “Insidious” has gross earnings of almost $200 million with just three films, while “Saw” has over $415.9 million with seven films. The former does have the advantage of an earlier date, so the latter will have to call out on their loyal fans for 13 years.
It is still over a year from now, but next year’s Halloween will be such a treat!
