“Scorpion” Season 2 Episode 11 “The Old College Try” aired last Monday, Dec. 7, 2015, at 9:00 p.m. on CBS. In this episode, the Scorpion team went undercover at a local university in order to locate a hacker who was holding the Federal Reserve hostage. Meanwhile, Walter O’Brien (Elyes Gabel) helped Ray Spiewack (Kevin Weisman) through the tenth anniversary of his friend’s death.

The episode began with the entire Scorpion team, except for Walter O’Brien (Elyes Gabel), helping Ralph Dineen (Riley B. Smith) with his time capsule assignment.

Paige Dineen (Katharine McPhee) then became worried about Walter, because instead of mourning over his sister’s death, he was trying to help Ray Spiewack (Kevin Weisman)  get over the tenth anniversary of his friend’s death. He did it by creating an experiment that would prove that Ray hadn’t caused the death of his friend.

They were then interrupted by Deputy Homeland Security Director Katherine Cooper (Peri Gilpin). She informed them that the Federal Reserve was being held hostage and that their only lead, a professor at a nearby university, had just died.

After discovering that the ransom software had been uploaded at an activity center  which had been rented by the Wrestling Team, the Drama Club, the Psych Department and a sorority at the same time, they were informed that they had to go undercover as students and teachers in order to get close enough in order to locate the device that had been used to do the upload. It would be located by a scanner that Walter and Happy Quinn (Jadyn Wong) made.

While the team went undercover, Paige would inform them whether they got a ping or not.

Sylvester Dodd (Ari Stidham) first tried to infiltrate the wrestling fraternity only to get several underwears dumped on his head.

Happy then joined several girls hoping to join Pi Upsilon, a sorority that Paige had been part of when she was in college.

There, she was approached by a fellow pledge who told her that she should try lowering her “shield” once in a while.

Dr. Toby Curtis (Eddie Kaye Thomas), in the meantime, had to swallow his pride down, as he had to pretend to apply for a job at the Department of Psychology from the person he hated the most- Quincy Beckstead (Jeff Galfer), the man who “stole his fiancée.”

Toby then managed to get Quincy to Agent Cabe Gallo (Robert Patrick), who was undercover as a campus security guard, who chloroformed him, and brought him to their hotel room for questioning.

However, they discovered that he didn’t know anything about the software, and ended up doling the harsh truth about why Toby’s ex-fiancee had left him.

Walter didn’t have much luck either and ended up having an argument with the theater students he was supposed to be teaching.

Happy, annoyed at herself, while inside the bathroom of the Pi Upsilon house, heard the dead professor’s name being spoken in argument happening in the next room. She then confronted the couple, Dorie (Shanley Caswell) and Alberto (Troy Doherty), got Dory’s laptop, and helped them get away from the mastermind, a man named Ryder (Billy Ray Gallion), who was now out to kill them.

It turned out that Dorie and Alberto had helped their professor code the ransom software, and that they had plugged it into the school’s top secret quantum computer. This posed a big problem as Walter and the team would have to plug the anti-code directly into the quantum computer, which was vacuum sealed in a chamber with a temperature of -100 Celsius.

In order to get in, and to maintain everything in the chamber’s environment, Walter, Happy and Sylvester used the astronaut suits on display at an exhibit in the college. Paige then managed to lower Sylvester’s temperature by mentioning Megan O’Brien (Camille Guaty) to calm him down, which allowed him to insert a mirror that slowed the processing of the quantum down, which allowed Walter’s anti-code to work.

However, they encountered another problem as Paige had been held hostage by Rider, who demanded that they give him the money that he had demanded earlier in exchange for her life. Cabe then got one of the security campus guards to help them out, which allowed Cabe to tackle Ryder from behind, thus saving the day.

Afterward, Happy, in an attempt to help Toby realize his college dreams, lowered her shield down and danced with him beside a sidewalk; and Walter’s experiment proved that Ray did not cause his friend’s death.

Because of this, Ray decided that it was time to go back into the world, and told Paige to be the one to approach Walter, as Walter did have feelings for her.

After Paige left, Walter realized that what Paige had said about looking back to the past and taking some time to mourn over Megan’s death was right, and slipped a picture of him and Megan into Ralph’s time capsule.
