The episode began with a group of young hikers lost in a forest, with the winds beginning to pick up.
At the Scorpion office, human behaviorist Toby Curtis (Eddie Kaye Thomas) made a wager with mechanical prodigy Happy Quinn (Jadyn Wong), It would result in either him taking her out to dinner or doing her laundry for one month.
Back downstairs, Toby watched Walter O’Brien (Elyes Gabel) give Paige Dineen (Katharine McPhee) some coffee. He pulled Walter over and showed him a theorem which showed that Walter had feelings for Paige. He had been giving her special treatment, like putting cinnamon in the coffee, which she liked.
They were then called up by Agent Cabe Gallo (Robert Patrick). He told Walter to use the tracking software Walter had created for Baghdad to help locate the missing hikers. Toby then was able to determine in what pattern the threads of the hikers’ shoes would create on the ground. The entire team, minus Cabe, flew in Marcus Bronson’s (Rick Ravanello) to locate them. As soon as their software located them, they would call in the coordinates via a SAT phone. However, the winds caused enough turbulence to cause the chopper to go in distress. Before they went down, Toby insisted on protecting Happy, which ultimately spelled disaster for the SAT phone.
After landing on a branch of a tree, Happy created a harness for them to get down, and human calculator Sylvester Dodd (Ari Stidham) told them that Paige should be the last to go down. However, Walter ignored it, which caused him to almost get flattened by the chopper.
Toby then patched up Marcus’ leg, which had gotten cut, and the group left Sylvester with Marcus. The rest of them looked for the hikers on the way to the best evacuation point- Fiddler’s Basin. They then found them and discovered that one of the girls was injured. They then started to go towards the basin, where Cabe correctly predicted that they would be at. He then called a helicopter in from Pendleton to help him.
Meanwhile, Marcus instructed Sylvester how to repair the radio, but it only sparked at died out. Afterward, they realized that they had to quickly get out from a forest fire. It was caused by the leaking fuel gasoline from the chopper was spreading. Sylvester fashioned a sled out of the door of the chopper, so that he could pull Marcus along. However, at a certain point, Sylvester stopped. He realized that he couldn’t outrun the fire. He then told Marcus to stop using military jargon on him, as it had never worked. He found a pipe where they could get shelter, with the chopper door as cover, when the fire went past that area. Surprisingly, it worked. Marcus realized that Sylvester didn’t have a good relationship with his father, who had been military. Afterward, Marcus realized that Sylvester could no longer keep on dragging him towards the basin. The sled wasn’t working anymore, and the smoke from the fire was blocking off all of their oxygen. He then ordered Sylvester to leave him behind.
Meanwhile, the rest of the group tried to outrun the fire, and rope swung across a narrow ravine towards the basin, whose path was now aflame. They then heard the chopper overhead and tried to get its attention, but it left. However, Walter took the diamond engagement ring from the hand of one of the girls, who had just gotten engaged. He threw it into the fire as it created a green plume, which acted as a signal. Before they were rescued, Walter held Paige’s hand, and Toby tried to confess to Happy.
After they got in the chopper, Sylvester came with Marcus on his back. Later, Marcus told Sylvester that he was tough, and that he would’ve been proud to call him his son.
Back at the office, Toby and Happy repeated the wager that they had earlier in the morning, but decided that they would just go out for dinner together anyway.
Walter then began to consider Toby’s theory about him having feelings for Paige, and erased the white board, but lingered on Toby’s drawing of a heart with two stick figures in it.
