Scott Derrickson, the man tied to helming the Marvel pic “Doctor Strange,” has begun working for Disney, leaving a question to waiting fans such as: “Is Derrickson starting his work on Doctor Strange?” Read on for further details.
According to Comicbook.com, the director, who has signed to direct the Marvel feature pic “Doctor Strange,” has begun working on Disney, tweeting a short pic of Mickey Mouse captioned “I now work on the Disney lot.”
It is not confirmed as to what Derrickson is working on, although it is speculated that the helmer might be starting his work for the Marvel pic, having reached the point here the cast is being finalized and pre-production work is underway.
Moreover, rumor has it that Marvel has negotiated with Pinewood-Shepperton Studios for Doctor Strange’s filming for 2015. The studio has housed projects for Disney including “Star Wars VII,” which is currently shooting at Pinewood; “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” which has recently wrapped up at Shepperton; “Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass,” which is still in production at the same venue. Other pics tied with the studio are Marvel’s “Ant-Man,” which is currently shooting at Pinewood’s new Atlanta studios in the U.S., and the next James Bond pic, aptly named “Bond 24,” which is expected to start shooting by late 2015 and early 2016.
Marvel has given up to the hesitant “Her” Actor Joaquin Phoenix who was earlier expected to take up the role.
“Doctor Strange” was created by Stan Lee and artist Steve Ditko and made his first ever appearance in Strange Tales #110 in 1963. Originally a gifted surgeon, the egotistical Dr. Stephen Strange’s life changed when he got in a car accident that badly damaged the nerves of his hands. Seeking the help of the Ancient One to heal his hands, the surgeon turned sorcerer was then trained instead to be proficient in the verse of Mystic Arts, becoming Earth’s greatest and most powerful mystic and master of the arcane arts — the “Sorcerer Supreme” — tasked to defend the realm against demons and mystical forces such as Baron Mordo, Dormammu, Shuma-Gorath, the Undying Ones, and Nightmare.
“Doctor Strange” is scheduled to begin shooting in May 2015 at Pinewood-Shepperton studios in the UK for a scheduled release on July 8, 2016.
