MTV network has not yet officially renewed Scream Season 3. But fans do have a small ray of hope, as the series will have a 2-hour Halloween special this October. Although Scream Season 2 revealed Kieran Wilcox to be the killer, there remains a possibility that Brandon James might be the real culprit.
The penultimate episode of Scream Season 2 raised doubts on Eli’s suspicious behavior. But the final episode titled When a Stranger Calls, Kieran kills Eli by shooting and then reveals that he and Piper were in love. Kieran spills the motive behind all the killings. He wanted to make Emma and Audrey suffer for killing Piper. Later, Sheriff Acosta shows up and takes Kieran into custody.
When Keiran is in prison, he gets a call from a man who claims to be the late Brandon James. James says on the phone, “Hello Kieran. Who told you, you could wear my mask?” thereby leaving a scope for Brandon James to be alive.
With this comes a possibility that perhaps it is Brandon James who is behind the killings and Kieran is just his puppet who was emotionally driven by him. Nonetheless, this is just a possibility and nothing is officially revealed yet. According to Den of Greek, showrunners Michael Gans and Richard Register neither denied nor confirmed whether or not Brandon James is alive.
Piper was killed in the freshman series of Scream. They did not even imagine that Kieran could be the killer. Their search for the man behind the mask revealed the biggest secret of Kieran Wilcox.
If there is Scream Season 3, there might be more to be exposed to Brandon James and his connection with Kieran Wilcox. James’s real motive behind calling Kieran in prison and the doubtful look on Kieran’s face has left the Season 2 finale with a cliffhanger.
Meanwhile, the 2-hour Halloween special Scream might build a bridge between Season 2 and Season 3. But if the series is supposed to get canceled, then it might conclude the Season 2 finale twist this October.
