Spring Breakers brings sex, violence, and the loss of innocence featuring Vanessa Hudgens, Selena Gomez, Ashley Benson, and Rachel Korine in Day-Glo bikinis. The four hour of the movie shows the aggression behind the four friends’ embrace of trash culture. They might look good in swimwear but you don’t want to meet them in a dark place.
Candy (Vanessa Hudgens), Cotty (Rachel Korine), and Brit (Ashley Benson) are college students from a Christian Southern college. It is spring break and they invite Faith (Selena Gomez) to go with them to Florida. Faith is warned that Cotty and Candy are trouble but that that doesn’t stop her from going with them.
The girls don’t have enough money for their spring break trip. They decide to rob a restaurant with water guns and hammers. Their initial criminal act is seen through the viewpoint of the girl in the getaway car.
Just after they arrive in St. Petersburg, they are jailed on a drug charge. They are bailed out by Alien (James Franco). He takes the girls to the dark side. Two of the girls have enough common sense to hop on a bus and go home while the two who choose to remain become Alien’s lovers and thinks of a plan to attack a rival.
Writer/director Harmony Korine’s Spring Breakers is the bastardized offspring of Grand Theft Auto and Natural Born Killers due to its lack of morality. Despite the loose morals of the characters, there’s a social commentary hidden in it.
The actresses are merely eye candies. Spring Breakers promises hot girls with guns and if you’re not expecting for more then you will not be disappointed by the movie. They are overshadowed by James Franco. Playing the dreadlocked and silver-toothed character is a big gamble for him but it pays off for movie.
