The “Selfie” star Karen Gillan didn’t get the chance to play the role of Eliza Dooley for as long as expected, but she has just taken a new role far from the shallow, social media obsessed Eliza Dooley that she played on-screen before because this one’s dark and serious.
HBO has ordered a pilot for “The Devil You Know,” and Gillan is set to star in the potential TV series. The show was co-written by Jenji Kohan (“Orange Is The New Black), Bruce Miller and Tracy Miller.
As per Deadline, “The Devil You Know” is a provocative period drama that explores the circumstances around of the most compelling chapters in American history – the infamous Salem Withc Trials in 17th century New England, where intolerance and repression set neighbor against neighbor and led a town to mass hysteria.”
Gillan joins that already growing cast including Nadia Alexander, Eddie Izzard and Ismenia Mendes who will be playing regular roles. Along with them we have Ever Carradine, Damien Molony, Julian Rhind Tutt, Matthew James Thomas, Nigel Lindsay, Ewen Bremner, Hannah Nordberg, Naian Gonzalez Norvind, Zawe Ashton, Will Pullen, Kate Nash, Seana Kofoed, Mary Mouser, Beanie Feldstein, and Mia Barron.
Gillan will play the role of Jane Porter, the youngest daughter of Israel Porter played by Bremner. This is definitely different from her “Selfie” character, right? And she’s a brilliant actress and she can definitely pull this one off.
“The Devil You Know” production will take place in Boston this spring.
What do you think of Gillan joining the cast? Are you looking forward to see the pilot of the show? It looks promising! Share your thoughts by posting your comments below!
