Shadowhunters Season 2 will bring about major changes to the pacing in the story. Series creators Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer promised a more mature approach to the series and its characters.
Cassandra Clare’s Mortal Instruments novels, which are the basis for the show, feature teenage characters. Naturally, it would make sense to see the casts portraying young characters in Season 1.
However, the showrunners have a different and more mature approach in the Shadowhunters Season 2. As much as possible, they do not want to give off that “young” impression that Season 1 gave. To do this, they change the pacing of the story.
They also put the spotlight on the major characters, contrary to Season 1, which gave emphasis to the adults. Likewise, Todd Slavkin enumerated the major changes he and Darren Swimmer made to the show.
Slavkin told Empire Online that they removed the lightsabers. Instead, they replaced it with swords that have runes glowing on the surface.
Action scenes are “more powerful and more visceral”
As for the fighting scenes, fans should expect more martial arts in the Shadowhunters Season 2. Slavkin hinted there will be air jumps and flips involve, since they opted to have more wire work. Freeform already gave fans a tease at one of the fighting sequences in the scene below.
Mind-blowing visual effects
Meanwhile, Slavkin promised a new level of visual effects in the new season. The portal, the vamp seed and the cat eyes will be different. Likewise, Magnus Bane will display a mind-blowing magic.
Todd Slavkin thought that Magnus and Alec’s relationship lacks development in Season 1. It did not fully explore or explain how Malec evolved. This is what Season 2 will explore. Slavkin said the installment will explain the evolution of their relationship from the beginning.
Overall, Slavkin revealed that the Shadowhunters Season 2 will be totally different, emotionally and visually. He assured that fans will find it thoroughly enjoyable and rewarding to watch.
